The Young Irelanders

WEDNESDAY, April 27, 2016 – 7:30 PM
Bluefield High School, Bluefield, WV

“Audiences outside of Ireland don’t [often] get a chance to see and hear what our Irish culture is really about, but are instead fed a derivative of the real thing.   I had a very clear objective: to find young performers who were evidently amongst the best exponents of  Irish traditional music, song & dance in the world today.

I am not exaggerating when I say… ‘I found them’. — Eric Cunningham (Producer)

The Young Irelanders comprises eight sensational performers who have traditional Irish music running through their veins. Though still in their 20’s and 30’s, these performers have achieved more than most people would aspire to in a lifetime.

Between them they have performed for many heads of state, US Presidents, the Queen of England, the President of China, Empress Mchiko of Japan, performed at Radio City Music Hall, Kremlin State Palace in Moscow, the US Capitol, and Detroit’s Fox Theatre.

Several ensemble members have been lead performers with Riverdance and Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, been soloists on PBS Specials, shared the stage with Bono, and have collaborated with Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) and Sting (The Police).

Mike Farris, Eclectic & Soulful

TUESDAY, November 10, 2015  –  7:30 PM
Bluefield College, Harman Chapel, Bluefield, VA

“Mike Farris has enough heart, soul, and power to light up a city. He mixes up the elements and turns them into something uniquely his own.”   Buddy Miller

An exhilarating vocalist, a fiery guitarist, with genre-defying style.
In 2008 Mike won an American Music Award for New/Emerging Artist, followed by a Dove award in 2010. This Spring, Mike’s newly released CD Shine For All the People  became the 2015 Grammy Award winner for Best Roots Gospel album, bearing witness to his determination and the power of his soulful music.

Our concert on Nov. 10th will feature Mike Farris’ distinctive covers of chart-topping songs from 1969.  Showcasing his eclectic talent, bringing together a combo of musicians, solo and vocal stylings, he performs great hits from the Motown era and some of his own compositions.

Quartet Latinoamericano

FRIDAY, October 9, 2015  –  7:30 PM
Bluefield High School, Bluefield, WV

Cuarteto Latinoamericano is one of the world’s most renowned classical music ensembles, for more than thirty years the leading proponent of Latin American music for string quartet.

Their progam will feature works by Astor Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos and others, as well as a Mozart piano concerto with local concert pianist Harold Brown.

Founded in Mexico in 1982, the Cuarteto has toured extensively throughout Europe, North and South America, Israel, China, Japan and New Zealand. They have premiered more than a hundred works written for them and they continue to introduce new and neglected composers to the genre.

Winners of a 2012 Latin Grammy, they have been recognized with the Mexican Music Critics Association Award and three times received Chamber Music America/ASCAP’s “Most Adventurous Programming” Award.
