Welcome to the 80th Annual Season of Blue Mountain Performing Arts!
Eighty years ago, a group of individuals from the two Virginias saw a need to make quality music and arts entertainment available to the people of our region.
We invite You and Your Family to celebrate this continuing cultural series, and experience the enriching performances of our 2015-2016 Season!
Thank You! for supporting the Arts in the two Virginias!
Mike Farris, Eclectic & Soulful
TUESDAY, November 10, 2015 – 7:30 PM
Bluefield College, Harman Chapel, Bluefield, VA
“Mike Farris has enough heart, soul, and power to light up a city. He mixes up the elements and turns them into something uniquely his own.” – Buddy Miller
An exhilarating vocalist, a fiery guitarist, with genre-defying style. In 2008 Mike won an American Music Award for New/Emerging Artist, followed by a Dove award in 2010. This Spring, Mike’s newly released CD Shine For All the People became the 2015 Grammy Award winner for Best Roots Gospel album, bearing witness to his determination and the power of his soulful music.
Our concert on Nov. 10th will feature Mike Farris’ distinctive covers of chart-topping songs from 1969. Showcasing his eclectic talent, bringing together a combo of musicians, solo and vocal stylings, he performs great hits from the Motown era and some of his own compositions.
FRIDAY, October 9, 2015 – 7:30 PM
Bluefield High School, Bluefield, WV
Cuarteto Latinoamericano is one of the world’s most renowned classical music ensembles, for more than thirty years the leading proponent of Latin American music for string quartet.
Their progam will feature works by Astor Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos and others, as well as a Mozart piano concerto with local concert pianist Harold Brown.
Founded in Mexico in 1982, the Cuarteto has toured extensively throughout Europe, North and South America, Israel, China, Japan and New Zealand. They have premiered more than a hundred works written for them and they continue to introduce new and neglected composers to the genre.
Winners of a 2012 Latin Grammy, they have been recognized with the Mexican Music Critics Association Award and three times received Chamber Music America/ASCAP’s “Most Adventurous Programming” Award.
